For many Americans, and Filipino expatriates living abroad now, many often ask me how to send money to someone in the Philippines?  Which service to use, Western Union, iKobo, Xoom or another service?

Depending on the situation determines the best service to use.  Moreover, you want the least expensive method, but a service that is safe to use.

For example, let's say you live in the states and you want to send a friend living in the Philippines $25.00, or about 1,175PHP.  For many thousands of people the choice method has been Western Union, iKobo and Xoom.  However, with Western Union the fees to send someone in the Philippines about $25.00 will cost you another $25.00 to send.  Ouch!

Then there has been iKobo.  A great service, but recently has closed it's doors due to a lack of a financial partner during these difficult economic times.  So, that's out.

And then there is Xoom.  Xoom is a great service.  The price to send about $25.00 to someone in the Philippines will cost you less then $4.00.  It's free to sign-up for a Xoom account.  And both parties, the sender and receiver, must have a Xoom account in order for it work for you.

So the next time you have a friend who wants to send you money to the Philippines, don't forget about Xoom.
